Bich's Birthday - Shoe Blossoms Fondant Cake

Bichs Birthday
For Bich, one of my best friends, I made a fondant cake with cherry blossoms and a shoe. Every woman loves shoes!

Bichs Birthday
It was my first 3D-shoe, also made of fondant. Bich and other friends were
really amazed at my cake, because they haven't known my new hobby yet.

Is she going to eat the cake or is it an expression of joy?
By the way, the cake is not tiny, but the Bacardi bottle is extra big. It's an 3 liter bottle!

It was a very funny birthday! What I've learned today: Never let other people mix your drinks!

Friends & Restaurant Moon Thai

I got a wedding invitation from Tina a couple of days before. She is now here in town preparing for her wedding in june. I'm really looking forward to this wedding and I'm so happy that she'll celebrate here in my city and not in N., which is so far away. I met my friends at the restaurant Moon Thai in Berlin-Mitte. They offer Thai dishes and sushi. This is the 3rd Moon Thai restaurant in Berlin.

I've known Tina since the 1st grade, but she was only in my parallel class at primary school. We have been friends since the beginning of the "gymnasium" (an academic high school in some European countries, especially Germany).

Brick & Anne
Brick joined my primary school in the 4th grade. Anne and Brick make a good couple!
I'm glad that I still have friends from my childhood. They know almost everything about you. Your ups and downs. How you've grown up, how you've changed and more or less found your personality. Jörg, who was missing today (he works now in South Germany ) often remembers me how shy I was when I was young. In the 1st grade I was so shy and speaked so low that my math teacher said:"Ally, please shout CAKE! Shout!" I don't know why the word "cake" but I swear I had to repeat shouting this word at least tree times until it was loud enough.

Pat King with chicken (only 3,50 EUR), rice extra.

Both seem to be happy with their dinner.

I had a big Thai soup "Kuoi Tieu Tom Yam" (6,90 EUR). It was ok. I've never been in this restaurant before. The ambience of the restaurant is quite nice: clean, comfy, dim light, Buddha sculpture, design in green / pink (flowers). It's a pity that I didn't take a pic of the restaurant.

It was a kind of "ladies night", therefore every cocktail costs only 3,50 EUR. For men 3,90 EUR. It's almost half of the normal price for a cocktail. But of course this price doesn't ruin the owner, for the cocktails are really wishi-washi. It doesn't mean that they aren't tasty! They are in some way. But they have less alcohol and the bar keeper doesn't take recipes seriously. My "Mai Tai" is red as you can see.

Hours later Mrs. Dü-Tö and Mr. Tö. joined us. They have just married. I think you can see the sparkle in their eyes. ;)) Mrs. Dü-Tö hardly drinks anything else than wheat beer. She also attended my "gymnasium". The financial crisis has reached us! Mr. Tö. showed us what he had bought at the KaDeWe (the largest department store in Europe before Harrod in London.) 2 hours ago: about 8 underpants from the good old traditional german brand Schiesser! Schiesser declared insolvency recently so Mr. Tö. bought enough underpants ahead before he can't buy them anymore.

We had a funny time together. I really enjoyed it!

Coldest Winter Ever

Berlin is so cold now that I think I'm in the Anarctic! It's one of the coldest winter for the last 100 years! The temperatur was about -23°C (-9.4 °F) last night!!! In some other regions it is even colder! I believe it's the iciest winter I've ever experienced!

My flowers didn't survive the frost.

I really love a sunny winter day like this. It's a pity that Leon is still ill, otherwise we would go toboggan riding. (View from our balcony)

The black long new VW Passat is our car (hub's car). 2nd from left.
The battery of my car is low...so it won't start anymore. It's always the same in winter!

New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve we spent time with our two families.
Chi Oanh's (sister-in-law) New Year's Eve home decoration style is puristic and beautiful. The violet tulips and the other violet flowers matched well with the white amaryllis, which are quite typical for this season. Amyaryllis are my favourite flowers of winter. The drawings are made by Anh Bàng.

This is typical in Germany: We drink sparkling wine (we don't call it champagne if it's not original from Champagne) and eat "Berliners", in some regions they call is "Krapfen". It's similar to donuts, but without a hole the middle. Cô Ba (Aunt-In-Law) call it "Bánh Tiêu Đừơng".

Me & my son

We kept lunch simple and practical is year. We didn't roll the summer rolls at the table, but rolled it before, so we had just to eat.. :-) It didn't take much time, but someway I miss this razzle-dazzle at the table, where everyone is busy... take this and that...rolling while talking and munching.

The whole family at lunch.

Unlike others, family Le like the puristic style of a christmas tree. There is a cute photocard showing the kids of Dinh & Thu from Washington D.C.

In the evening we went to my family...to Aunt Phượng for dinner.

There were some friends of Vivi, too.

Brother Kỳ and friend Khôi. Two handsome guys.

Uncle Danh (friend of family) delivered a short speech.

Chú Danh took this photo. It's my fav pic of us 3. I think I'm gonna take this pic for Hub's and my purse. So far I haven't got any pics of my family in my purse!

Look! Leon clinked glasses, too!

We had a very delicious "Lẩu" (fire pot or fondue)...
...with every kind of seafood and vegetables.

Leon & Mum

Shortly before midnight we came back to Hubby's family. Aunt Út is looking very fresh here.
Hub, me, Văn & Friends and Lâm were on the streets to enjoy and set off fireworks. It was bitter cold, I guess about -5°C. I put on 4 pullovers + warm jacket. The rest of the family including Vỹ & Hân stayed at home. These two were not allowed to set off fireworks due to risk of injury.

After midnight it was party time for Văn. He celebrated his 17th birthday.

"This is for Thien, not for you!"

"Ok ok..."

This dress "áo dài" is suiting Chi Oanh well. The colour RED is used to bring good fortune.

"Happy new year!"

December 30th

From now on you will read my blog only in English, because there are a lot of people far away from Germany who read my blog. Yes, as I'm an asian I have relatives all over the world! The google translator is not bad, but it translates my former posts into English and Vietnamese so disastrously!
I wrote in Germany "Leon didn't stop slobbering ('cause he got his 10ths tooth)". Google translates "Leon did not listen to Salivation." What a complete different meaning! The 2nd reason to blog in English is that I want to improve my English. Therefore I need YOU as my English teacher! If you find some mistakes, please let me know! Thanks!!!

As every year my friends and I celebrate New Year's Eve before New Year's Eve! Anh Khanh invited us to this home. (Check the lot of teddys at the curtain!) We had as always a lot of fun.

Gỏi Đồ Biển (vietnamese seafood salad) made by Hue

Vịt quay (grilled duck) made by Bích
The duck is very very very delicious. But she won't give me her recipe!
She swore to the restaurant owner that she would never share his secret recipe to anybody.
Calamaris
Cơm Lào & nem chua made by Trang
(Rice with pickled sour pork sausage, recipe from Laos)

Linh, Nguyet, Bich, me, Trang, Hue

Khanh & Nguyet made these two pictures at the wedding photographer Milan in Saigon.
Very beautiful!
Hue is now in her 5th month of pregnancy. You can see a little sweet tummy. It will be a girl!
Teo, Trang, me, Bich

Du's godson, Tung, Hubby
My cam is really good. I love the atmosphere my camera has catched.
After midnight Nguyet served Bún Riêu (Crab Meat Noodle Soup)
We ate and ate and drank my favourite sparkling wine ASTI. The men had beer and some rum and vodka. We played blackjack. And guess what! I think it was the first "December-30th-party" at which nobody was drunk. Really! In the last years there were at least 2 oder 3 who were boozy! Awful, but we get more sensible!
